American novelist, Rachel Cosgrove (Payes) (1922-1998) is a genre novelist known for historical romance novels, science-fiction, fantasy, and gothic novels. Her first published book was The Hidden Valley of Oz. She wrote a sequel shortly after, The Wicked Witch of Oz, which Reilly & Lee rejected, but was published by the International Wizard of Oz Club in 1993. She revisited several characters from The Hidden Valley of Oz in short stories, published in Oz-Story Magazine.
