Jack Pumpkinhead of Oz (Del Rey)

Oz book #23! By Ruth Plumly Thompson. Illustrated by John R. Neill.

Peter a lively boy from Philadelphia, who we first met in the Gnome King of Oz, joins forces with Jack Pumpkinhead to rescue Ozma and the Emerald City from conquest by Mogodore the Red Baron of Baffleburg. With the help of Belfaygor of Bourne, whose beard grows at an alarming rate, and a charming Iffin, a griffin who's lost his Grrrr, they race against a deadline chasing the Red Baron's army as they head for the Emerald City with Princess Shirley Sunshine as their captive. There is an enchanted pirate sack that can scoop up and entire army, a magic dinner bell and a forbidden flagon. Jack eventually enlists the aid of the infamous Red Jinn of Ev to provide red magic that could help him save the Land of Oz.
